Mokoro Learn

The tutor that knows what the examiner is looking for

Exam-style practice for Botswana IGCSE and BGCSE learners, with a marker honest enough to say where your mark went. Ask why an answer was wrong, and get the method — not the answer.

Free to use, no account, and everything stays on your own device. No account, no upload, no ranking

71 original exam-style questions worth 213 marks, across 51 syllabus topics. 27 topics still build out — published openly below rather than hidden.

What a tutor does that a quiz app does not

Nothing here promises a grade. What it does is put the examiner's logic in front of you, on your own answers, every time you practise.

Marking that explains itself

Every option carries a reason it is right and a reason each other option is wrong. Correcting an answer takes one line, not a paragraph.

A drill built from your own errors

The app keeps your wrong answers and can re-serve them, so revision is aimed at what you actually missed rather than what you already know.

Topic mastery you can see

Marks per topic, counting method marks that are recoverable, with the command-word errors separated from the knowledge errors.

Paper routine

A timed drill mode, a marks-per-minute budget, and the six-step routine used by learners who finish every paper on time.

A printable plan

Your weakest topics and the spacing schedule, ready to print — because a plan on paper gets done and a plan inside an app often does not.

Honest about grey areas

Where the mark depends on the mark scheme wording, the app says which reading it is taking. No confident nonsense.

Botswana IGCSE and BGCSE, side by side

Both routes are covered, and questions are filed against a shared topic spine — so the same well-written question serves both, and neither learner gets a watered-down version of the other's syllabus.

Cambridge IGCSE

International and private schools in Botswana, and learners sitting as private candidates.

19 subjects mapped · 6 with a live bank

Syllabus codes and paper structures are checked at each annual review. Where a code has changed, the board page is the authority, not this app.

Subjects

A subject marked live has questions you can drill today. A subject marked queued has its topic map and technique guide published, so you know exactly where it stands — no empty promise of “coming soon”.

Languages

Reading, writing, and the accuracy marks most learners lose by habit.

Mathematics

Method marks are recoverable; carelessness is not free. Show every step.

Sciences

Command words carry the marks: state, describe and explain are three different answers.

Humanities

Argument beats recall once the knowledge is there. Learn the case-study evidence.

Business and commerce

Knowledge is easy; application is the exam. Use the case study in every sentence.

Creative and technical

Portfolio subjects reward process, drafting and honest self-critique.

Agriculture and life skills

Practical knowledge from the Botswana context, examined in written papers.

What we do not cover, and why

  • Religious and moral education — Taught by schools and families with a context only they can give it. We publish no religious material of any kind, in line with how this brand is built.
  • Health, sex and life-orientation content — Safeguarding-sensitive. A school or clinic delivers this properly; an app should not be the first place a learner meets it.
  • Set texts, novels and poetry anthologies — Reproducing a set text is copyright infringement. We teach the technique; the text itself comes from your school.

The six-step paper routine

This is the tactical core of the app. Every step is something you can do in the next ten minutes, and every step is measurable — which is why it works better than advice to study harder.

  1. 1

Work backwards from past papers, not forwards from the textbook

    20 minutes a sitting

    • Sit one past paper or question set closed-book, in exam conditions, before revising the topic.
    • Mark it yourself immediately, with the mark scheme in front of you.
    • List only the topics where you lost marks, then revise exactly those and re-sit the same paper a week later.

Textbook revision feels productive and is hard to measure. Working backwards means every study hour is aimed at a question you have already failed once — which is the only evidence that matters.

  2. 2

Learn to read a mark scheme like a marker

    10 minutes per paper

    • Find where the marks actually are: the number of ticks on each line is the number of marks.
    • Notice the acceptable synonyms and note the words that score nothing.
    • Write your answer in the same shape as the scheme: separate points, each ticking one box.

Most lost marks are format, not knowledge. An answer buried in a sentence cannot be ticked, even when it is correct.

  3. 3

Keep an error log with three columns, not a neat notebook

    5 minutes after every paper

    • Column 1: the question, in five words.
    • Column 2: why it went wrong — did not know it, misread it, or knew it and said it badly.
    • Column 3: the one-line fix for next time.

A learner who knows the difference between "did not know" and "said it badly" fixes the second category in an afternoon. That category is usually worth a whole grade band.

  4. 4

Answer the command word that was asked

    Built into every question here

    • Highlight the command word before reading the rest of the question.
    • Check your answer matches the demand — describe, explain and evaluate are three different papers.

Examiners encode the required depth in one word. Answering the wrong one loses marks a learner had already earned.

  5. 5

Give each minute a mark and hold to it

    Practised under a timer

    • Work out marks per minute for your paper (one mark per minute is the common rule).
    • If a question runs past its time, write the next step you would take and move on.
    • Leave the last ten per cent of the time for checking — the cheapest marks on the paper.

Papers are lost at the end, not the beginning. A question finished and four left blank scores worse than a question partly done and every paper finished.

  6. 6

Proofread for the same three errors, every time

    Two minutes, always

    • Tense consistency (a past-paper narrative stays in the past).
    • Subject and verb agreement, especially with collective nouns.
    • Units, decimal places and significant figures on calculations.

Hunting a different error each time means hunting nothing. Three checks, done every paper, catches the majority of carelessness.

Command words: the difference between two marks and six

Examiners encode how much thinking they want in one word. Most dropped marks are a learner answering “explain” with a “state” answer — knowledge they had, lost in delivery.

Command words, what they demand, the common trap and an example
Command wordWhat the examiner wantsThe trapExample
State / Give / NameOne short factual answer. No explanation needed — do not waste time.Writing a paragraph where one word was asked for, then running out of time later."State the unit of force." → newton (N)
DescribeWhat happens, in order, with the detail a marker can see.Explaining why. That is a different question worth different marks."Describe what happens to the mass when it is placed in water." → it sinks, bubbles form, the temperature rises
ExplainA mechanism: cause → because → consequence, using the correct terms.Repeating the question back with no chain of reasoning. "Because it reacts" earns nothing."Explain why the rate increases." → more collisions per second between particles, each with energy above the activation energy
CalculateWorking, substitution, answer with a unit, sensible rounding.Writing only the answer. Method marks are given before the answer mark.P = VI = 12 × 2.5 = 30 W
Show thatThe full route to the value already printed in the question.Quoting the given value back. It was already printed — the marks are for the route."Show that the current is 2.0 A." → I = V/R = 12/6 = 2.0 A
CompareBoth things, on the same feature, then the difference. "Both ... whereas ..."Describing one side fully and forgetting the other entirely. Both are seeded plants, but the bean stores food in its cotyledon whereas the maize stores it in its endosperm.
SuggestApply your knowledge to a situation you have not been taught directly.Leaving it blank because it was not in the notes. "Suggest" rewards sensible reasoning."Suggest why sales fell in Gaborone." → cheaper imports reached the same customers first
Evaluate / Discuss / JustifyTwo sides with evidence, then a decision and a condition for it.Sitting on the fence. "However it depends" with no decision caps the marks."Evaluate whether the expansion is a good idea." → it is, provided the shop lease is under five years
DefineA precise statement — usually one mark per key term included. An example instead of a definition. Examples illustrate; they do not define."Define opportunity cost." → the value of the next best alternative given up
Annotate / LabelShort labels on the diagram, with arrows pointing to the exact feature.Long sentences the diagram cannot accommodate, or labels floating away from the parts.Label the alveolus "site of gas exchange" rather than "here is where the air goes".

The rules the app holds itself to

  • A learner’s answers stay on their own device. No account, no upload, no sync and no analytics on answers. The data never leaves the browser unless the learner exports it themselves.
  • No leaderboards, rankings or public comparison. No social feed, no chat, no friends system, no streak-shaming. Progress is visible only to the person doing the work.
  • No predicted grades, ever. Grade boundaries move every session. We show marks per paper, topic mastery and an error profile — the things a learner can act on this week.
  • Original questions, not copied papers. Our bank is written in the style of the exam, mapped to the same assessment objectives. Past papers themselves are copyright and stay with the board and your school.
  • No photographs of people. No stock imagery, no avatars, no faces. Diagrams are drawn, and anything the app does not know shows nothing rather than a guess.
  • No diagnostic or clinical claims of any kind. Learning difficulty and mental-health questions belong with a qualified professional. The app does not assess, label or screen for anything medical.
  • No countdowns, streaks, guilt copy or upsell pressure. No manufactured urgency, no notification nagging. The app is scannable in plain language and adds nothing that makes a learner feel watched.
  • Costs stated plainly, in pula and dollars. The learner tools are free with the bank open. Anything a school pays for is a licence, priced openly, with no per-child charge and no surprise renewal.
  • Designed to WCAG 2.1 AA from the first commit. Keyboard-complete, labelled controls, visible focus, 360 px layout, and no motion that cannot be paused. Readable on the cheapest Android phone in the room.
  • Every question is machine-checked and human-worth checking. Marks add up, answers are present, the correct option is defensible, and the whole bank is walked by an automated test on every build — not checked once by hand and hoped for.

Our commitments to the learner

  • Honest correction over flattery: a paper you failed is marked failed, with the reason, and a route back.
  • Fairness in the base rate: the core bank is free, because a learner who cannot pay should not be a worse learner.
  • No ranking of children, ever. Progress is compared to the learner’s own past, not to a cohort.
  • Marks are shown with the method, so a learner can see exactly where a mark is earned or lost.
  • A learner can delete everything, immediately, from the same screen that holds it.

Works on the phone in your pocket

  • No account and no login: the app works the moment it loads.
  • Progress is stored on the device, so a dropped connection costs nothing.
  • Designed first for a 360 px screen and a shared phone.
  • The service worker caches the shell, so revisiting works on a slow connection.
  • A printed progress sheet is generated from the same data, for a parent with no data bundle.

This app is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official product of Cambridge International or the Botswana Examinations Council. It hosts no past papers: the official papers and mark schemes come from your school and the board, and this app teaches you how to work them properly.

Straight answers

Is the practice free?

Yes. The question bank and the paper drills are free, with no account. A school can licence cohort tools and printed packs, and that revenue is what funds the free bank.

Can you get me into a top university?

No, and be careful with anyone who promises that. What we can do is measure where your marks are going, teach the examiner technique, and give you a plan you will actually follow.

Are these real past papers?

They are written in the style of the paper and mapped to the same assessment objectives. The real papers are copyright, so you get them from your school or the board — and this app teaches you how to work them properly.

Will you predict my grade?

No. Grade boundaries move every session. We show marks per paper, per topic, and what you got wrong — grade talk is what a teacher does with the full picture.

What happens to my answers?

They stay in your browser. There is no account, no upload and no tracking on answers. You can delete everything with one button, and nothing is recoverable afterwards.

Is this religious or political?

Neither. There is no religious material and no religious terminology anywhere — just the syllabus, the examiner technique and honest marking.

Ten minutes now, one topic properly

A drill is four questions. You will get the examiner's reasoning after each one, and the app will remember exactly what you missed so the next drill is aimed at it.
